Managing stress during the holidays
It can be tough to navigate work, kids, chores, and the holidays. Running around, looking for gifts, preparing meals, travel plans, or expecting company can be exhausting, despite it being a festive time of the year.
It’s important to recognize when we need to take a step back and breathe. The 4-7-8 breathing method is highly beneficial for release stress and anxiety. It was founded by Dr. Weil. He has made impressive discoveries about this breathing technique.
During the rush of the holiday season, make a commitment to set boundaries, communicate with loved ones, and more importantly, ask for help. Often times, we find ourselves in “fix it” or “get it done” mode, all while depleting ourselves into stress, anxiety, and over all unhappiness.
Take 5 minutes throughout your day to breathe, stretch, go for a walk, or do a 5 minute progressive muscle relaxation exercise. You can do simple techniques, even at work, or while wrapping presents to release stress and get a boost of energy.
It’s okay to set boundaries, it’s okay to take breaks, it’s okay to care for yourself. No, it’s not selfish; it’s self-care.
Remember to breathe.
Happy holidays!
